World of Warcraft Clear
Heroes

Heroes are NPC's introduced with the Nightfall campaign and are only available to players who own that campaign. Unlike henchmen, heroes can be customised by the player and do have access to areas henchmen don't, such as The Underworld and Elite Missions in the Factions campaign. Each player may take up to three heroes in a team. Like Henchmen heroes take a percentage of drops from foes while in combat.

Recruiting Heroes
Heroes can be recruited by completing quests, however, some quests require you to choose one hero over another. On completing Nightfall you can choose to recruit any hero not previously recruited in the Throne of Secrets by completing their quest. The hero Zenmai is only available to players who also own the Factions campaign and the hero Olias can only be recruited by players who also own the Prophecies campaign. Heroes can also be unlocked for PvP use with Balthazar Faction (3,000 or 6,000 dependant on the character).

Hero Attribute Points + Skill Selection
Heroes gain experience and attribute points in much the same way as a player by completing missions, quests and defeating foes. If a player has a hero with a lower level than themselves then that hero gains experience points at an accelerated rate. Heroes also gain the two extra sets of attribute points, they gain the first 15 when they reach level 10 and the rest when they reach level 15. Attributes for each hero can be set by opening the skills and attribute panel using the 'k' hot key and selecting that hero's icon within the panel while the hero is in your party.

While your hero is selected you can apply attribute points and select skills for your hero in the same way as you use the panel for yourself. It is important to note that the AI (Artificial Intelligence) of your hero, prioritizes the left most skills in the skill bar. When selecting skills for your hero be sure to add the most important skills to the left of the bar and support skills towards the right.

Your hero's Secondary Profession can be chosen and Skill Templates can also be applied via the skills and attributes panel.

Hero Skills
There are three distinct ways in which a hero gains and can have access to skills.

Primary Skills: This basic skills set is unlocked when you first aquire your hero.

Account Skills: Heroes automatically have access to all skills unlocked on your account, including elite skills. Any subsequent skills you unlock for your account become available to your hero too.

Hero Skill Trainers: Skills can be bought from Hero Skill Trainers using Hero Skill points, this will unlock skills chosen from the selection available from that trainer. Hero skills attained from Hero Skill Trainers are only available to you if you currently have that skills profession set as your primary or secondary profession.

Hero skill points are awarded during progression through the Sunspear and Lightbringer ranks.

  • One Hero skill point for the first two Sunspear ranks
  • Two Hero skill points for the other Sunspear ranks
  • Two Hero skill points for each Lightbringer rank

Armor and Weapons
Using the inventory panel, hot key 'i', you can select weapons, shields and focus items for your hero and modify your heroes armor.

Armor: Hero armor can not be dyed and can not be replaced via the inventory panel. Runes and Insignia can be applied to your heros armor as you would apply them to your own. It is important to note that as hero armor can not be replaced via the inventory panel when salvaging runes or insignia from hero armor you can be certain that the armor piece will not be lost.

Hero armor upgrades automatically according to the hero level, once your hero has reached level 20 that heros armor reaches the maximum armor rating for that profession.

The hero Head Piece does not supply a +1 bonus to attributes unless a rune has been applied, after a rune has been applied the head piece will apply a +1 bonus to that runes attribute.

Hero armor can be upgraded via the challenge missions after succesfully attaining the required item. Once the item required has been obtained a heros armor may be upgraded via the Hero Armor NPC located at the challenge mission. The armor upgrade does not affect the stats of the armor, only its appearence. See the individual hero information for upgrade type, required item and challenge mission location.

Weapons: Any weapon, shield or focus item available in your inventory can be equipped by your hero. Weapons customised to you can also be equipped by your hero and will also utilize the 20% damage bonus.

Pets
Any hero with Ranger as a primary or secondary profession can have a pet. While aquiring a pet for your hero it may be a good idea to unequip weapons from the hero, set the combat mode to passive, to ensure the AI does not make the hero attack, and ensure your other heroes and henchmen are clear.

Hero Battles
Heroes can't be used in Team Arenas or in Alliance battles. Heroes can be used for PvP in Hero Battles. These can be found in the battle isles once you have unlocked three heroes on your account.

Hero battles occur between two players, each controlling three heroes. Heroes must be chosen and equipped before entering the Arena. Opposing teams are chosen at random and the battles take place over four random maps.

Each map contains a number of shrines, holding these shrines provide powerful buffs to your team which vary according to the map and shrine. While holding the Central Shrine you deal 10% more damage but have 10% less health from the active buff "To the Pain!".

The first team to score 20 is the winner of the match. Scores are accrued based on kills or by holding the Central Shrine, holding the Central Shrine provides one point every thirty seconds.

There is no Death Penalty in Hero Battles, team members are resurrected every 30 seconds at their base.

If no team has reached the top score of 20 after 10 minutes then Sudden Death is activated, the next team to score a point wins.

Taking Control

The Hero Control Panel
To access the Hero Control Panel click on the number next to the hero's name in the Party Panel while out in a combat area.

Using Hero Skills
The AI (Artificial Intelligence) of your hero governs the normal use of skills, to prioritize skills simply click on the skill you wish your hero to use, the hero will use that skill next on the targetted ally or foe. When a skill is priotitized in this way a green check mark will appear over the icon.
You can also stop your hero from using skills, to do this use a combination of shift+click, a red symbol will appear over the skill icon. Your hero will not use a canceled skill until you shift+click to make it active again. Note: Disabling a skill this way still allows you to activate the skill manualy, this is a good way to stop your hero from disabling a maintained enchantment, shift+click to disable hero use then manualy acitivate the skill by clicking, the hero will be unable to remove the enchantment until you have shift+clicked to enable it.

Using Hero Skills
Fight: The Hero attacks a called target or a target in combat with the party. If necessary, the Hero will charge forward, away from the rest of the party, to attack.
Guard: The Hero stands guard over the flagged area if you have placed a destination flag, or toward the back lines of the party if you have not. The Hero will attack called targets and any target in combat with the party, but only if doing so does not force that Hero to leave the guarded area.
Avoid: The Hero never attacks and attempts to avoid enemies when attacked.

Targeting
Your hero can either be left to fight freely, attack called targets or you can take further control and target your hero on a specific foe by using the target icon. There are three different states for the target icon :
Inactive: When no target has been called.
Active: The icon will change to this state when a target has been called. While active you can click on the target icon to set your hero to attack the targeted foe.
Targeted: The icon will change to this state when your hero is focused on a targeted foe. To stop your hero from targeting click on the icon again.

Controlling Hero Movement
When you leave a town or outpost with Heroes in your party you have the ability to control their movement around the map using a flag system attached to your compass. You can choose to control all of your heroes and henchmen in your party or control heroes individually.

The numbered flag icons in the bottom of the compass window correspond to the number for each hero in the party panel.

Flag Icons
To move a hero (or all allied NPC's) click on the corresponding icon then place a flag in the area within the compass, your hero will now move and stay at the flagged position. To remove the flag either double click the used flag icon or use the cancel icon and the hero will return to your location.
All Heroes and Henchmen: Use this icon to move all of your heroes and henchmen, either double click on the icon to remove the flag or press the cancel icon to have your heroes and henchmen return to your location.
Individual Heroes: Use the individualy numbered flag icons to have individual control of your heroes. To remove a flag individualy double click on that heroes corresponding numbered flag icon, to cancel all flags use the cancel icon.
Cancel Flag: Use this icon to remove all flags placed on the map. When flags are canceled heroes will return to your location.
